Back to my old ’school’

I used to be a computer lecturer for many colleges before I became a programmer. One of the college was Taylor’s College. I taught computer subjects for CPU (Canadian Pre University) program and it one of the most memorable experience for me. One of the reasons is because it had the best teaching conditions […]

45 minute morning walk

Being in front of the computer daily for about half of the day is certainly not healthy. That is why I do take long walks every chance I get. Last Wednesday morning I took a walk from my uncle’s house at Bandar Utama to IKea. That was a 45 minutes walk. Hmmm.. perhaps should […]

ABC Mamak Shop again

Problems with Streamyx again so I’m out at the Mamak shop to do my work.

Two roti telur for lunch. There seems to be more WiFi connection in the shop. I get the occasional stray signal of KFC WiFi too
Anyway dropping entrecards here at the Mamak shop was painfully slow because some […]

KFC has WiFi too

Last week I stopped at KFC to have lunch and was surprised they had free WiFi there too.

Had a Zinger burger and blogged for the first time from KFC. Since I just finished taking part in a 88 vs 1 chess simul event, I blogged about. I used my PDA and wireless keyboard. […]

Back from Chess

I’ve been away from this blog but I was actively blogging about a chess tournament in Selangor Pewter at Wangsa Maju. This tournament is very old as it is already in it’s 35th year - sponsored by Selangor Pewter.
Here are some pictures from the event:-
Felica - a Chinese player from Indonesia
Ian Udani from […]

Highlight of last week

One of my best result in a chess tournament. I won 4th place in this one-day chess competition held at Bukit Jalil with a cash prize of RM 80. I’m on the right.

50 Imation DVD+R @ RM 43

Bought this at PC Fair for RM 43 (50 discs). But I’m sure you can get this at the same price (or cheaper!) in Low Yat.

50 discs so that translates to 50×4.7 = 235Gb.
I need it to backup all the pictures in my notebook (plus all the junk downloads I made).

I […]

Good news / bad news day

Lightning struck yesterday and my modem got fried. It’s TMNet very common Riger DB102 ASDL modem.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is this envelope. Can’t tell from who without opening it..

Calling using Skype Out is cheap

I just called my friend using Skype out on Maxis for USD 0.058 per minute. Talked about 2 minutes that’s only about USD 0.12. That’s 40 cents Malaysian. That’s cheaper than my DiGi prepaid

I used my PayPal to buy USD 10 credits from Skype months ago and I have yet to top […]

My old blogspot looks better than this blog

I can’t get Merdurian’s comment on my blog theme looking ‘cacat’ out of my mind. Yeah I must agree it looks a bit ‘cacat’ with the ads not fitting in.

Back to PHP programming

The last few days I’ve been doing some PHP programming for some extra side cash.
It’s been slow and boring and I finally realised what was missing. My code editor was dull.

Petaling Street Lunch

Back when I was working as a full time programmer, the highlight of my day was lunch time!
I would put on a pair of headphones and listen to tech news on my MP3 player while on my way to Petaling Street.

Messy messy

My desk is in a mess. I have CDs and papers all over the desk. My computer is in a mess. I mean the hard disk is full of junk. Lots of trial/shareware programs installed and I just haven’t taken the time to uninstall. The desktop is full of downloaded bits […]

I’m finally no.1 on Google!

Yesterday I was pleased to see searches on Google.com (not Google.com.my) finally returned my website in the first position. I waited till today to see if it stayed that way and it did!
So here it is, I’m finally no. 1 on Google search for “Andrew Ooi“:

You may think this blog was to be another […]

I am a programmer not a designer

I once went for an interview for the post of web developer. Upon arrival, the interviewer asked for my portfolios which in return I responded with a “Huh?”.
Apparently they were looking for someone with creative and design skills which I sadly lack. I told them I’m only familiar with PHP, Java and C programming. They […]

No ping to PPS for first time

This is my first time in a long time where I can post without pinging Petaling Street.org
Competition between me an toosuperheroes.blogspot.com is over and I’ve WON!!
But I didn’t win with a big margin and it was close all the way. Still it’ll be interesting to see what is my daily traffic without […]

Adsense Cashout at BSN

This is another typical post about cashing out from Western Union. Only difference is I did it in Bank Simpanan Nasional near my place. Feel silly to travel all the way to town to cashout when the nearest Western Union outlet is 5 minutes walk from where I live.

Still at the mamak stall, I […]

Make it dinner too…

Just as I was leaving, I turned off my downloading programs like BitComet and made a last check to see how the Andrew vs 2Superheroes competition was going, I saw that the web page loaded quite fast. The past few hours it was frustrating with constant refreshing after “Web page not found” message was shown.
