Back from Chess
I’ve been away from this blog but I was actively blogging about a chess tournament in Selangor Pewter at Wangsa Maju. This tournament is very old as it is already in it’s 35th year - sponsored by Selangor Pewter.
Here are some pictures from the event:-
Felica - a Chinese player from Indonesia
Ian Udani from Philippines - a strong player winning many local tournaments in Malaysia but didn’t do well in the Selangor Open.
National Woman Master - Khairunissa Wahiduddin whom I played and beat. My most memorable game as she is the only titled player I’ve ever beaten in my life!
The kid holding the camera is Yeoh Li Tian who is Under 10 and I lost to him ( how embarassing !!) but he is a talented young kid. In chess, age is no barrier!
A rare picture of me taken by another Hairulov - a chess blogger. Here I am about to lose to Yeoh Li Tian. Usually I’m the one taking pictures of everyone else
It was a crazy experience, playing chess and blogging about the on-going results for 5 days straight. Then again I won’t be known as GilaChess if I wasn’t that crazy
It was very satisfying particularly when there are many chess enthusiasts around the country following the news closely. My chess blog had a spike of over 300 visitors for the days I blogged about the event. The usual traffic is only 100 visits per day.
Of course it was damn tiring too. That’s why it’s been three days after the tournament before I’ve even posted here. Spent that time recovering from it all !
