Free SMS via Twitter

I just discovered Twitter SMS feature. Registered and tried out Twitter early last year but didn’t get the micro blogging thingy. Now going back I find that it’s actually good for sending free SMS.

Back to PHP programming

The last few days I’ve been doing some PHP programming for some extra side cash.
It’s been slow and boring and I finally realised what was missing. My code editor was dull.

Do you have brain illness?

Just read this from Canada.com on Internet addition.

Compulsive e-mailing and text messaging could soon become classified as an official brain illness.
An editorial in this month’s issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry says Internet addiction — including “excessive gaming, sexual pre-occupations and e-mail/text messaging” — is a common compulsive-impulsive disorder that should be added to […]

WiFi detecting T-Shirt

Saw this after I downloaded a file from SourceForge.net.
Can you get any geekier ??
It sells for USD 29.99
I’d love to see some Malaysians walking around with this T-Shirt.
The glowing bars on the front of the shirt dynamically change as the surrounding wi-fi signal strength fluctuates. Finally you can get the attention you […]

Probloggerwiki.com spammed

Have to say this is a neglected side project of mine - ProbloggerWiki.com
I have not updated it for months and today visited it by chance. Noticed that the wiki’s home page has been defaced by spam bots.

Tai Chi blogging

That’s what it feels like when I blog without pinging PetalingStreet.org. There is no rush. No anxiousness in finding out how much traffic you will get for that one ping. You learn to be calm and concentrate on smaller gains.

Petaling Street Lunch

Back when I was working as a full time programmer, the highlight of my day was lunch time!
I would put on a pair of headphones and listen to tech news on my MP3 player while on my way to Petaling Street.

Alexa redirects works!

You know the Alexa redirect technique that uses a URL like
http://redirect.Alexa.com/redirect?www.andrewooi.com
It’s just a theory of mine and I don’t have solid proof. But ever since Alexa killed the redirect feature, my own Alexa ranking has been dropping badly.

Dell Notebook (640M) Battery "end of life"

Your battery is able to charge normally, however it is reaching the end of its usable life.

That’s the message I’m seeing everytime I bootup my Dell 640m notebook. I bought this notebook just over a year (14 months to be precise).
Dang it! The battery used to last almost 2 hours with WiFi on. Now […]

7 day challenge - 50 visitors daily

PetalingStreet, org “blogtal” is like a drug to blog newbies like me as it’s the fastest way to get local traffic.
Going Cold Turkey
I’m going on a 1 week trial (13 March - 19 March) to see if I can hit 50 visitors without any pings to Petaling Street. Traffic have been steadily going down since the […]

Andrew Ooi vs 2Superheroes - a different comparison

The last 2 traffic competition between this blog and two superheroes was fun and also insightful. Besides comparing who has more traffic, another way to compare blogs is to look at the Alexa ranking, backlinks from Google and Yahoo etc.

The biggest difference is the Yahoo backlinks. I only have 42 while the 2superheroes have 3,740 […]

10,000 BC movie review

Nice pussy cat.. Man you need a breath mint!
The computer generated mammoth sure looks real.
However, humans using Mammoths to build the pyramids is an interesting theory! Didn’t Mammoth die out in the ice age some million years ago? How come they are here in 10,000 BC? Well, a quick check with WikiPedia tells me that […]

New favicon and template for my Tanah Rata blog

While listening to the election results on TV, I was choosing a better looking theme for my Tanah Rata website. I like this ‘parchment’ theme:-

You can get it here.
Also, I created a new favicon for this blogspot site. First I ‘drew’ this by hand using Paint Shop Pro 7 and then uploaded the 100×100 […]

I’m finally no.1 on Google!

Yesterday I was pleased to see searches on Google.com (not Google.com.my) finally returned my website in the first position. I waited till today to see if it stayed that way and it did!
So here it is, I’m finally no. 1 on Google search for “Andrew Ooi“:

You may think this blog was to be another […]

I am a programmer not a designer

I once went for an interview for the post of web developer. Upon arrival, the interviewer asked for my portfolios which in return I responded with a “Huh?”.
Apparently they were looking for someone with creative and design skills which I sadly lack. I told them I’m only familiar with PHP, Java and C programming. They […]
