I just discovered Twitter SMS feature. Registered and tried out Twitter early last year but didn’t get the micro blogging thingy. Now going back I find that it’s actually good for sending free SMS.

This feature allows you to easily send free SMS from the computer to your friends.

Roughly this is how to set it up:-

The person receiving  
Image5 Go to the person’s page where you want to receive the twitter from.

eg: http://www.twitter.com/username

For my case here I created a new account and made it not visible to public (protected). I am using this account for the sole purpose of sending out free SMS.
Image4 Click on “Request to follow me“
Image9 After the approval is given. Go back and change the updates by turning “Device Update” to “On“.

This is to make sure your updates is not just via the web but thru SMS.
   
  The person sending
The person who is sending the SMS will receive a notification on the right sidebar. Image2
Just click on the
“1 new follower request!” text		 Image3
Click on “Accept“

and that’s it!

To make it both way, just switch the receiver and sender steps.

The great thing about this is you can twitter and update via SMS to a group of people subscribed to you.

The only limitation is you can only send 250 SMS per week.

Also this is assuming that you are in a country that does not charge you for receiving SMS (there ARE countries that do this you know).
