I remember several years ago during the days of the SARS virus I lost my job as a lecturer but survived by giving Java tuition. There was a huge demand for Java tuition because of the high failure rate in one IT college. The demand was so good that I never even tried to apply for a full time job until a year later.

My tuition place was at Mc Donald’s Ampang Park as students did not want to come to my place in Old Klang Road. That would have been so much easier but it was decided some place near their college like Mc Donalds was best. I started out small with less than 10 students but that grew to over 60 students in a few weeks.

So when the twosuperheroes blogged about having Mc Donalds food in Ampang Park, it brought back lots of memories. I was such a regular there that when I went to order my usual “large Coke no ice” some staff already knew and I did not have to open my mouth to order it :)
Of course, many of my students advised me how unhealthy for me to drink so much Coke in a day.

It was strange giving tuition in a public place like that but I got used to it. My tuition was really personal as most of the groups were kept small at 1-3 students only.

Anyway those were good times as I really deepened my programming knowledge as well as teaching skill in Java.
