DVD players with USB ports?
Recently while in a shopping complex, I was surprised to see some DVD players that has what looked like USB ports. It looks like not only do computers have USB ports, bus so does DVD players!
I asked the shopkeeper if that meant that I can plugin my USB thumbdrive and watch movies out of that. He said “yes”. It so happened I had a Divx movie about 300Mb on my thumbdrive and I plugged that in and it played very smoothly from the USB stick. Apparently the DVD player has codex to decode Divx too!
Amazing! All this from a cheapo brand made in China. The price of that player is RM 139 but I just saw one offer from Jaya Jusco in Mid Valley for RM 99 only. I think it’s worth getting as I’ve been burning videos off my notebook to try to view them on the TV and DVD player but it’s such a waste of discs. Also, there’s something wrong with my notebook’s TV out as it keeps on displaying Black and White videos only
Anyway, my current Sony DVD player needs to be changed too as it can’t read many (ahem) pirated DVDs. Better to replace that with a cheap one that has USB reader, multi-region playback, and DivX codex.
Update: I bought the DVD player with USB port ![]()

From my experience, if you want good quality listening to mp3, just burn the a CD with mp3 song encoded using lame and play it on High end DVD player that support mp3.
I’m using 2nd hand Pioneer DV S755 it, it sound great. but it dowesnt have divx or USD port.

Nope I don’t listen to MP3 on my DVD player. Usually I do that on my portable MP3 player with headphones or my PDA. Thanks for the tips though..
