Cloverfield
This is the JJ Abrams super hyped up movie in the vein of Snakes on a Plane in 2006 with the full force of internet viral marketing being used. Thankfully I have to say that the movie is not as overhyped as Snakes on a Plane. In other words it was not that disappointing to watch after the hype.
Many reviews on the net either liked the show or hated it. I find the movie not that great but definitely above average.
If you are one of those people who get dizzy watching films with the ‘camera shake’ technique that is supposed to add realism to the movie, than you better not watch it. Also those who think that some parts of the movie goes back to ‘normal’ (ie back to normal cameras without the hand cams) then you will be disappointed as the ENTIRE movie is filmed using the one hand cam. I really want to know what type of portable video camera they were using as the battery life on it is FANTASTIC not to mention the great HD quality
I commend the creators of the movie as they tried hard to put the viewers in the shoes of the victims and make it as close as possible to the ‘real thing’. Hence the use of ‘realistic’ camera shakes, off angles, lost sounds. Were they successful? I think they brought it as close as they can using today’s movie technology. To me it was pretty close.
Also no point hiding the fact that this is a monster movie in the same city destruction theme as the movie Godzilla. But I am a little disappointed as there are only glimpses of the monster. Still there was a 5-10 second shot of the monster in the final scenes.
Also to answer Timothy Tiah’s question on his review of the movie.
Highlight with your mouse as this contains some spoilers:-
(start highlight)
1. The girl was not too seriously injured as the metal bar just potruded from her shoulder and not her chest (otherwise such an injury would render her less than mobile).
2. The army had to fight the monster despite their weapons proven inneffective at first contact. They couldn’t just lay down and retreat as there were civilians in the city. Perhaps this was a delaying tactic.
(end highlight)
I don’t mind watching the show again as there are some parts of it I missed. Especially one scene where the girl is taken behind the some tents and something strange happened to her in a split second.
If you reach this part, don’t blink! (like what I did)
My final conclusion: 3.5 stars out of 5.

Are you sure? I think this is shakier
Anyway, it’s interesting that I read somewhere they have come up with a software solution that can take a shaky movie clip and ’stabilise’ it.
Imagine that being applied to Transformers, Bourne and Cloverfield !!

I got a lil’ headache when it started. But then, the show is like a real life time experience
