Just got back from holidays so I’m a little out of touch. I found out about the Google page update from 5xmom.com. I have to say she is the most updated mother in Malaysia, web-wise, that is.

The last time did a Page Rank update was on Nov 10th last year. It was very late and the results were shocking with PR punishment served to people doing paid posts or links. So the first quarter PR update is on 10-12 Jan 2008 this time. They are on time this time around which I didn’t expect. I regret not working on my new sites more so that they would have gained new PRs. :( Whatever it is, it is wise not depend on the usual 3-4 month update cycle as Google has been rolling out updates from month to month recently.

Anyway, I’m glad to say that it did not affect me negatively as the last time. I quick check shows that I only have 2 websites drop in ranking (PR3->PR2 and PR4->PR3) and a few with new PRs. I will check all my other smalller and less significant to see if there are any changes.

This blog itself is still unchanged at PR2 but I’m not disappointed at all as this is my personal and for-fun blog. I do not expect it to have a high PR.

PR ‘flows’ like water
A popular belief is that you can lose your PR juice by linking to too many to external websites. I  believe this too so I’m manually placing ‘no-follow’ tags  in my links on my  PR3/4 blogs. Of course, you can automatically add no-follow tag by using some Wordpress plugin but I like to do mine manually.

Still PR crazed
In short, I’m quite happy with this update as it shows that Google has not abandoned Page Rank as rumoured last year. Page Rank is still important no matter what other bloggers have said. It’s still a universal measurement by potential advertisers to your website. No surprise that I’ll continue to be obsessed with PR :)

My plans:

  1. Build new blogs in niche that I’m interested in such as :

    • Tech and Web
    • Travel
  2. Learn and implement better SEO techniques to rank higher.
  3. Write more web apps so that I can give more scripts and services for free to attract more traffic.
  4. Share higher quality articles to be recognized in the authority in my niche such as web programming.
  5. Learn more about customising Wordpress theme. For example, there are lots of shortcomings of many current themes I am using but have not yet taken time to do it.

What is your Google PR? Any changes?
