Perceived value of Google PR
I’ve been blogging like crazy on this blog ever since Google gave me a PR2. I’ve been posting a few articles everyday and I’m not even writing paid posts !! Back when I was N/A and PR 0 I didn’t have that much ‘drive’ to post here. Don’t you think this is a crazy thing
??
So is it real? The value of Google PR? To me I think it’s because I perceive that there is value in it. So that means it’s not real? Perception is everything. In my mind’s eye I believe that there’s value. That gives Google PR it’s power. I guess it’s the same with the majority of advertisers and visitors too. How simple can it get? You rank a website from a scale of 1 to 10.
I’ve even become somewhat of a PR snob. I installed a FireFox plugin that immediately tells me what is the PR of the website I’m visiting. This is what I think of websites after looking at their PR:-
PR0? That’s just a beginner starting out.
PR1? A beginner also but at least can write some decent posts once in a while.
PR2? Like me. Problogger wannabe!
PR3? Not bad. Not a newbie and quite experienced.
PR4? Got potential to earn money especially from Paid Posts and Paid Links.
PR5? Must be a ProBlogger. Respect. Respect.
Are you are PR snob like me?
Can some other metric come and take over or even replace Google Page Ranks system ? I think this is not an easy thing to do.

Not much website is ranked PR5, only big websites like Yahoo, MSN, MySpace, Friendster, Facebook, Digg is rated as such. Well, obviously Google’s main page will be rated PR5 even with no content whatsoever.
I doubt any blogs other than big ones like BoingBoing or Endgadget get a PR5.

I wished it was just a number. But my mind is “programmed” to think it’s oh so so important. What to do ? What to do?

thinking bout it technically the PR can be earned or ruined with SEO. Plus of course the activeness in your blog.
But since the past dance happened many have voiced unhappiness due to drop in rankings of blogs offering paid links. Even I’m personally not happy as my blog dropped from 4 to 3 recently.
However, I suppose its my fault for not actively posting and keeping to my niche. Heck, ill still continue to blog anyway.

PR is one of the many measures of how Google ranks you on SERPs so if you are looking towards getting traffic from Google then there is no replacement. If you see PR as a measure to sell links or so then yes it can be replaced by Alexa ranking…

Just came across your blog by way of BloggingZoom. See, how effective BZ is to get traffic to your blog! Anyway, I would like to say the most important thing is having traffic. Google PR is nice to see when the number is higher but if you think too much about it especially when your number is low or zilch, the feeling can start to crawl in your belly. Of course, I’m not disregarding PR, a high ranking can open many doors for you. But to achieve that, you got to keep churning good content and not play black hat games with Big G. And forget about those memes, you’ll end up getting smacked by Big G again!

Yeah I am beginning to see traffic from BloggingZoom. It’s definitely better than digg or blogrush. Yeah, just practice White Hat SEO and I should be fine. I’m avoiding all Paid Links and Sponsored Posts on this blog.
