One thing I find surprising is that Wikis can earn money too. Since two of my chess websites has the highest traffic among all my other websites, it’s not surprising that the same two sites are also my top 2 highest Google Adsense earners. I don’t earn much from Adsense but it’s enough to pay for all my webhosting fees and have a little change to start up new websites.

What I didn’t expect is that my Malaysian Wiki (http://malaysia.maribelajar.com) was following closely at third position in terms of earnings. It’s surprising because I started the Wiki for fun and also as a learning experience to find out how Wiki’s work. The content was about Malaysia and most of it, I sourced from the internet. So it’s not surprising that the content was pretty thin. After adding Adsense code into the template, I did not spend much time on it.

For the start of this year, not only is this wiki consistently been the third highest Adsense earner for me but in some months it even surpassed the earnings of my top two websites. So the smart thing to do is to pay more attention to the Wiki. Perhaps improve the layout of the first page which is a mess. Also, I should beef up the wiki’s content. I already added Kontera ads to it and have just received daily reports on impression on it (Kontera reports are 2 days late).

I’m also planning to experiment with Wiki’s on other Malaysian tourism destination to see how they perform using Adsense. I figure can kill many birds with a stone. Go for holidays in resorts, take pictures, blog about it and fill up the Wiki to earn money. :)
