Frog in boiling water
You’ve heard this before. if you drop a frog into the pan when the water is boiling, it will leap out. Reflex action to pain.
But if you put the frog into a pan of cold water, and then heat it steadily towards boiling point, the frog - unaware that any dramatic change is taking place - will just sit there, and slowly cook.
That’s what I’m feeling right now. I am THAT FROG!!
Working in a 9-6 job. 3 hours commute everyday. Let’s see now that’s 12 hours of the day dedicated to working full time. It’s such a terrible waste of time. So I guess I’m happy to see people like Hong Kiat resigning from their day jobs. I join 5xmom in congratulating him in jumping out of the boiling water.
As for me, I will have to stay for quite some time. 60%-70% there now. Hope I don’t get boiled before I get a chance to jump out.

Corrections! Dreaming of sending the letter only. I still need the job. But this ‘frog’ is now conscious and noticing the rising temperature - that’s something at least !
Govt can’t really do much in terms of policy here.
Perhaps companies should encourage more telecommuting for IT workers. Measurement of work performance should not be in work hours but how much work is done and the quality of work done.
